YOU'RE NOT IMAGINING IT: The unregulated CBD market in India is flooded with products that contain a fraction of their labelled cannabinoid content—or no active cannabinoids at all.
A significant proportion of consumers who report “CBD doesn't work for me” are actually consuming hemp seed oil with trace CBD dressed up in therapeutic packaging.
You researched carefully. You bought what looked like a reputable CBD oil. You used it for two weeks. And nothing happened.
No improvement in sleep. No reduction in anxiety. No change in pain. You concluded that CBD doesn't work for you—and moved on.
Here's what likely actually happened: your product was not what it claimed to be.
The Indian CBD and Vijaya Extract market is growing rapidly, and with growth has come a flood of under-regulated products that range from mildly under-potent to essentially inactive hemp seed oil sold at CBD prices.
Understanding how to identify and buy genuine, potent Vijaya Extract is one of the most important consumer skills in the Indian wellness market right now.
The Five Reasons CBD “Doesn't Work” in India
Reason 1: You Bought Hemp Seed Oil Marketed as CBD Oil
This is the most common reason. Hemp seed oil—cold-pressed from cannabis seeds—is a nutritious cooking and cosmetic oil, but it contains zero cannabinoids. It's not CBD oil. It's not Vijaya Extract. It will not produce any therapeutic effect on sleep, anxiety or pain.
Many products on Indian e-commerce platforms list “hemp oil” or “Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil” in their ingredients while implying cannabinoid content through imagery and marketing language.
If the ingredient list says “hemp seed oil” and nothing else, you have not purchased CBD—no matter what the front of the label suggests.
QUICK CHECK: Flip your bottle. If the ingredients list “Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil” or “Hemp Seed Oil” without also listing “Cannabis Sativa Leaf Extract,” “Vijaya Extract” or “CBD isolate,” you are holding a nutritional oil, not a therapeutic cannabinoid product.
Reason 2: The Product Is Heavily Diluted
Even genuine CBD products are often diluted to a fraction of their labelled strength. A 1,000 mg CBD oil in a 30 ml bottle should theoretically deliver approximately 33 mg of CBD per ml. Without verified third-party testing, however, you have no way of knowing whether that is true.
Studies of consumer CBD products in both Western and Indian markets have found that a significant majority of products deliver less than 90% of their labelled cannabinoid content, and many deliver less than 50%.
In the absence of AYUSH-mandated testing enforcement, the problem is acute in India.
Reason 3: Incorrect Dosing for Your Physiology
CBD dosing is highly individual. Body weight, endocannabinoid tone, metabolic rate and the specific condition being addressed all influence the effective dose. Generic “one dropper per day” instructions are not personalised dosing guidance.
Many consumers underdose—particularly with sleep-maintenance insomnia, which often requires a higher or differently timed dose than sleep-onset issues.
Reason 4: The Wrong Cannabinoid Profile for Your Concern
CBD isolate—pure CBD only—and full-spectrum Vijaya Extract, which contains CBD, trace THC, CBN and terpenes, have meaningfully different effects.
For sleep maintenance, CBN and trace THC are often more important than CBD alone.
For anxiety, CBD combined with specific terpenes such as linalool and myrcene may be more effective than isolate.
A product that “doesn't work” may simply be the wrong formulation for your specific concern.
Reason 5: You Did Not Give It Enough Time
Cannabinoids build systemic effects gradually. Unlike melatonin, which can produce an effect the same night, or benzodiazepines, which act within 30–60 minutes.
Cannabinoid support for chronic sleep and anxiety patterns typically requires 7–21 days of consistent use before the full benefit is apparent.
Many users give up after three to five days—particularly if they purchased an underdosed or incorrectly formulated product.

How to Read a Certificate of Analysis (COA)—Step by Step
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a third-party laboratory document that verifies what is actually inside a cannabinoid product. Any reputable AYUSH-licensed brand should provide batch-specific COAs on its website or upon request.
Here is how to read one:
Step 1: Verify the Lab
The COA should be issued by an independent, accredited third-party laboratory—not an in-house laboratory operated by the brand.
Look for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation or equivalent Indian laboratory accreditation. The laboratory's name, address and accreditation number should be clearly visible on the document.
Step 2: Match the Batch Number
The COA's batch or lot number should match the batch number printed on your product label. A COA from a different batch does not verify your specific product.
Step 3: Check the Cannabinoid Profile
Look for the cannabinoid potency table. It should include:
- CBD (cannabidiol) content: Displayed in mg/g or mg/ml and matching the label claim within ±10%.
- THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content: Within the AYUSH-permitted limits for the product type.
- Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG and other cannabinoids should be listed when the product is full-spectrum.
Step 4: Check for Contaminants
A comprehensive COA should also include:
- Heavy metals: Lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium should be “Not Detected” or within established safety limits.
- Pesticide residues: Results should be “Not Detected” or below regulatory limits.
- Microbial contamination: Mould, yeast and E. coli should be absent or within permitted limits.
Step 5: Confirm the Test Date
Cannabinoid potency degrades over time, particularly with exposure to heat, light and oxygen. A COA older than 12 months for the specific batch should be treated with caution, especially if the product has been stored poorly.
CALMA TRANSPARENCY: Calma Care publishes batch-specific COAs from accredited third-party laboratories for every product it sells.
Its cannabinoid profiles are standardised within ±5% of the labelled content and verified batch by batch.
What Genuine, Potent Vijaya Extract Actually Feels Like
If you have been using diluted or mislabelled products, you may not know what effective cannabinoid therapy actually feels like. Here is what to expect from a properly dosed, genuine full-spectrum Vijaya Extract product:
| Timeframe | Expected Experience from a Genuine Product |
|---|---|
| 45–90 minutes after ingestion | Mild physical relaxation may begin, with a slight reduction in background mental chatter. |
| Days 3–7 of consistent use | Improved sleep continuity, fewer nighttime awakenings and slightly better morning alertness. |
| Days 7–14 | A measurable reduction in baseline daytime anxiety and sustained improvement in sleep quality. |
| Days 14–21+ | The full systemic effect may become more noticeable, with improved ECS tone and enhanced stress resilience. |

What you should not experience: A correctly dosed, AYUSH-licensed product should not cause a psychoactive “high,” significant next-day grogginess, dependency or immediate dramatic sedation.
These experiences may indicate excessively high THC content, a mislabelled formulation or an interaction with another substance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long should I give CBD oil before deciding it is not working?
Give a genuine, correctly dosed full-spectrum product a minimum of 14–21 days of consistent daily use before assessing its effectiveness.
If you have used it for two weeks at the recommended dose with no discernible effect, consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
You may require a different dose, cannabinoid profile or assessment of an underlying issue affecting your response.
How can I tell if my CBD oil is fake?
Request the COA for your specific product batch. If the brand cannot provide one from an accredited third-party laboratory, do not purchase the product.
A very low price relative to the claimed potency can also indicate dilution. Genuine, AYUSH-licensed Vijaya Extract is not inexpensive to produce correctly.
Is full-spectrum better than CBD isolate for sleep?
For sleep, particularly sleep maintenance, a full-spectrum formulation may offer broader support. Full-spectrum Vijaya Extract retains CBN, trace THC, terpenes such as myrcene and linalool, and other minor cannabinoids that work together.
CBD isolate may support some anxiety and relaxation pathways but lacks the wider cannabinoid and terpene profile.
Can I take more CBD oil to compensate for a weak product?
Not effectively. If the product is mislabelled and contains no meaningful CBD, increasing the amount will simply provide more carrier oil. Replace the product instead of increasing the dose, and purchase only from AYUSH-licensed brands that provide batch-specific third-party COAs.
